Most of the riding photos are clips in Steven’s part in The Price Is Wrong, so you can get a little glimpse of it. How long have you been in business? Two years!

Can you explain how the idea for a store came to be? My best friend and one of my partners Corey were looking to start a business together; we even thought of a pizza place (ha ha ha). But I wanted to do something I loved and be able to give back to BMX what it gave me.

Who owns the shop? Who works there? Me (Rob Mic), Corey Pronsky, and Roy DeGuzman (original NYC flatlander). Roy and I are at the shop. I’m here 24/7; Roy is here on the weekends. We also have Long Island Road Bike legend Nelson Aldana.

What events have you done at the shop in the past few years? Where do I start. Opening day was MAY Day. With the help of Enos of Base Brooklyn it one of the biggest events on Long Island. We did Endless Summer Jam, two fund raising events for the local schools that raised over $3,000 in total. The last event we did was at the local firehouse here in town for their annual Carnival. That event brought in the most money on any night they ever had in the history of the Carnival. And who could forget the Indoor Animal Demo that Enos put together . We couldn’t do any of these events without the help of Enos or any of the locals who help us out; too many to mention (you know who you are).

What changes have you noticed in the scene since the shop opened? Lets see; when we opened the door on day one there were two BMX kids in the area (JOE and JOE); now on any giving day at the shop there are at least twenty kids here riding the ramps or just hanging around. That’s why we put on so many events; it cost a lot to do them but it has turned so many kids onto BMX. That it is my way of giving back to the thing that made me what I am.

What does Bike Doctor offer that mail-order doesn’t?  Our shop offers the whole experience of the BMX lifestyle, a kid cant get the opinion of ten other riders on what is good, you hang at a shop with other riders you get the whole picture. We support the kids, growing up we all hung at the shop (BMX COUNTRY) that’s were our day started and then off to go ride.

Strangest experience selling an Animal product: Five year-old on a sixteen-inch wanted Animal tires on is bike sooo bad, so we put Animal pedals, Animal Grips and Animal seat (he was psyched).

Why carry Animal? Because Animal is rider-owned, plain and simple; they know what’s good on the street.

What’s something you never expected to happen after opening the shop? My own kids knowing BMX. My biggest thrill is when the Animal team showed up, and my son went over to Nigel and said, “My dad owns the shop.” Nigel shook his hand and said, “You’re a lucky kid.”

Any future plans for the shop?Lots!!!!!!!

How many trends have you seen come and go since you have been open? The biggest trend we try to kill is, “How much does that weigh.” Who cares, if it’s going to break in a day.

What is the best thing you gained or witnessed from owning/ starting the shop? I make a lot more money selling a $5,000 road bike to a middle-aged guy in spandex (a lot more). But it does nothing for me. When I sell a kid his first BMX bike and he shows up at the shop the next week to hang with all the other kids, and before you know it he one of them. That’s the best!!!

If you can have one BMX product that doesn’t exist yet what would it be? Don’t need it; two wheels, grips to hold onto, and cranks to pedal.

Where do you see the shop in ten years? Hopefully get a public park here in town, and riding it with my sons and all the other kids, and still here hanging out at the shop talking about BMX.
